Drammen is fit for fight!
On the 11th of March the Viessmann FIS World Cup Cross-Country Sprint race will be held in Drammen city centre for the 7th time. The 1 245 metre track, which encircles both the main square and Bragernes church, has allready proven to be much harder than originally expected.
About 7 000 cubic metres of artificial snow will be transported from Konnerud ski arena. The track will be built within two days and will stand out as white and appealing as the athletes approach the starting line at the main square. The finishing tape will be right in front of Bragernes church.
As previous years, thousands of spectators are expected to be attending the races. Some will even stay overnight in a tent camp to get a good view the next day. Two large TV screens will enable the crowd to follow the athletes the whole track around.
On the day before the sprint race a Mini World Cup will be held for children four years old and older. This year we plan for 2 000 children to compete in the same track where their ski heroes will sweat it out on Thursday.
The organizing committee, with Geirr Kihle in front, is looking forward to an exciting event and welcomes all athletes, leaders and a cheerful crowd to the races on March 11th.
